Dutch Apple Pie

Total Time: 1 hr 30 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 4 -5 apples (jonathan, mcintosh, or gala, not red or )
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 cup walnuts, finely chopped (also could use pecans)

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • 2 make crust by mixing together flour, salt and shortening with a fork. add water. roll out and place in pie plate. set aside.
  • 3 make filling: peel and cut apples. in another bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar. place half of apples in pie plate, and sprinkle with half of cinnamon/sugar mixture. repeat using the rest of the apples and cinnamon/sugar.
  • 4 make crumb topping by combining all ingredients. sprinkle over apples.
  • 5 bake at 400 for 20 minutes, reduce heat and bake at 325 for 40 minutes.
