Dutch Apple Cake

Total Time: 1 hr 15 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • 3 cups tart apples, such as granny smith, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick about 3 medium size apples
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Recipe

  • 1 in large bowl, combine apples, 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon; let stand for 1 hour.
  • 2 in large mixing bowl, cream butter and remaining sugar until light and fluffy.
  • 3 add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  • 4 add vanilla.
  • 5 combine flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and beat until smooth.
  • 6 pour into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • 7 push apple slices vertically into batter, placing them close together.
  • 8 bake at 325°f for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • 9 cool for 10 minutes in pan before removing to a wire rack.
  • 10 serve warm.
