Dutch Apple Cake

Ingredients
- 3 cups tart apples, such as granny smith, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick about 3 medium size apples
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup sugar
- 2/3 cup butter, softened
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Recipe
- 1 in large bowl, combine apples, 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon; let stand for 1 hour.
- 2 in large mixing bowl, cream butter and remaining sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3 add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
- 4 add vanilla.
- 5 combine flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and beat until smooth.
- 6 pour into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- 7 push apple slices vertically into batter, placing them close together.
- 8 bake at 325°f for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
- 9 cool for 10 minutes in pan before removing to a wire rack.
- 10 serve warm.
